Jewellery Quarter Silver
Location: Museum of the Jewellery Quarter
19th February 2011 - 30th July 2011
This stunning exhibition showcases a newly commissioned piece of silver by Birmingham silversmith Kevin Grey. The silver celebrates the historic Jewellery Quarter, drawing inspiration from the area, its buildings and architecture. Kevin Grey reveals in his work the extraordinary skill and creativity that thrives in the Jewellery Quarter today.
The exhibition gives insight into the processes involved in making the piece of silver including preparatory works and photographs of the silversmith in his workshop.
The exhibition also displays a collection of spoons made by participants of the Cultural Champions project. These Ladywood residents learned simple silversmithing techniques with designer maker, Louise Chesshire. They also put this experience into context by exploring the manufacturing heritage of the Jewellery Quarter.
